Sales

November 2018 - August 2019 • Deer Park, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed the opportunity to travel and work with a variety of people from many different back grounds. It is not everyday that you get to say you are living in Long Island. I loved that I had the opportunity to work as hard as I wanted and as long as I wanted.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have had a little more training before I was in New York to go sell. For a first year salesman it was a really big learning curve to go from working with professors and surrounded in a Utah culture to memorizing a script, learning to adapt to new cultures (especially the New York culture) and how to confidently approach strangers on their own grounds while working long hours everyday.

Advice

I would say that if this is a route that someone is getting ready to go down, be completely invested in the work. The potential to do great things is there, but what can not be overlooked is what the job requires which is a strong mindset, a willingness to be on the doors and also enthusiasm in what you are doing. One other piece of advice I would mention is make sure that you are with a group of people you love and are comfortable around. A good team and team leader will pick you up when you are not feeling 100% there.

Service Professional

April - August 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I liked the hours they gave me and I liked that they rewarded me with a raise each time I came back to work for them.

What I wish was different

I wish that some of the communication between different staff members had been a little better; it made it kind of difficult to do my job well sometimes when an office staff member didn't communicate with me when I needed them to.

Advice

It's a great job, but if you're going to do it, just make sure your work ethic is solid and you'll be taken care of just fine.

Sales Representative

May - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I made enough money to pay for all of my school debts, rent, and personal items for the next couple of years. It was a very hard job, but very satisfactory.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had worked a little bit harder in the tough moments during the summer. It is at those trying moments that you are able to make the greatest improvements to your character, and in a sales job, you can increase your income even more by pushing through those hard times.

Advice

Adopt a do or die mentality as you start any summer sales job. It is only through continuous hard work and training that you can succeed. If you think that you can simply quit once it gets hard, you will never be able to achieve your true potential.

What I liked

I liked the high expectations and team environment that forced me to grow and expand my capabilities.

What I wish was different

I wish it were possible to have a better work-life balance, but we all accepted that we wouldn't get that for the few months we were working.

Advice

It is not for the faint-hearted, but i've seen people who never would have been pegged as a salesperson do really well! It was difficult, but it was worth it and I can stay financially independent and debt free through college because of it.
