What I liked

From very early on in my internship, I had a lot of autonomy and quickly gained full responsibility over all the charts for Arbo's biweekly publication for customers. I was also given an open-ended task to explore a brand new dataset that Arbo had just acquired. I loved being able to explore that data and come up with insights on my own to then be able to share with the greater team.

What I wish was different

I had no prior knowledge or experience in the energy industry and didn't have much onboarding as it relates to the industry. The industry onboarding process has improved significantly since my time as an intern. We are continuously finding new resources that we share with both our interns and the broader team.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for help! Arbo is a small company, and everyone on the team is willing to answer questions, whether they're related to technical aspects of your job or more specific subject matter questions.

What I liked

The small company size allows for an intimate team culture, which fostered ample professional development and opportunities for growth. The company provided me with many opportunities to work in a variety of business units, which gave me a comprehensive understanding of the various roles and responsibilities at Arbo.

What I wish was different

I joined at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant the company transitioned from an all in-person environment to a fully-remote environment. Over the course of my time with Arbo, employees slowly trickled back to the office; however, it was rare to interact with all employees in person. To encourage team building and face-to-face interaction, the company hosts quarterly get togethers, where all team members, local and remote, come together once a quarter.

Advice

Arbo is a great company, where you can learn about a wide variety of job functions while gaining versatility in professional skills. Since the company is small, ask as many questions as you can! The small team size allows for you to grow faster than you would at a big company. All employees are there to help you grow, take advantage of it! Ask questions, propose ideas and potential solutions, and be proactive. It goes a long way at Arbo.
