Writing Center Tutor and Arcadia Library Assistant

June 2019 • Glenside, PA

What I liked

Writing Center Tutor - I love helping people with their writing, and beyond that, helping them become better writers. I also love that my boss has immense trust in the judgement of his consultants, especially when we are doing such an important job on campus. Arcadia Library Assistant - I like this job because of the great friends I have met through it. I also love helping people with whatever they need when they come into the library.

What I wish was different

Writing Center Tutor - Absolutely nothing. This is my favorite job on campus and I love the collaborative aspect between the director of the Writing Center, Daniel Schall, and the consultants that he employs. Arcadia Library Assistant - I wish there were less "hard and fast" rules for very simple things that the employees should be trusted to make judgement calls for.

Advice

I really enjoy being employed at Arcadia for work study. I have met so many good friends working at Arcadia and I really enjoy the work that I do there. Helping people with their writing in the Writing Center is especially rewarding. I highly recommend working at Arcadia for work study!

Peer Mentor and tutor

May - August 2018 • Glenside, PA

What I liked

What I loved about peer mentoring was connecting with incoming freshman and helping them smooth that awkward transition from high school to college. Also with my tutoring job it was always great to see them come in doubting themselves only to walk out feeling confident in the subject and their abilities as incoming college students.

What I wish was different

Honestly just some further organization on the universities part but other than that I cant complain about anything.

Advice

It definitely is difficult to handle situations that are above you but don't be afraid to ask people above you for help. as much as we try to juggle and handle things on our own. My employers were there to help and train me further for next time.
