Archdiocese of Chicago

Parish Operations Intern

June - July 2023 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

It was cool getting to live in community with my fellow coworkers! I had great mentors who worked tirelessly with me to ensure I understood my assignments and were always available to help me when needed. They also helped us to adjust to living in Chicago and planned fun outings for us to attend and gel together as a team. It was really fulfilling to use my technological skills developed at school to give back to the Catholic Church that raised me into the man that I am today.

What I wish was different

Sometimes there was a lack of clear direction in which to take my projects or which projects I would be working on.

Advice

Be open-minded to adjusting to the culture of the Archdiocese of Chicago. While not the most technologically advanced in comparison to some private companies, they are doing very impressive work in the field of data analytics. Everyone there is really nice and will want to get to know you and how your work is coming along.

Lawn Maintenance Worker

May - August 2018 • Evergreen Park, IL

What I liked

The people I met through this job were fantastic. I made some very good friends, and I enjoyed coming to work everyday.

What I wish was different

I noticed other parts of the cemetery needed work, other than the grass. Things such as painting the fences or headstone resetting would have made the cemetery look even better.

Advice

People think you can only learn valuable life lessons in corporate internships or other high-ranking professions. However, you can learn a lot about both yourself and overall life by working in places like cemeteries.
