Instructor

June - October 2019 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

Learned how to instruct a medical biology class of 5-8th graders. Organized a mini science fair. Led office hours for questions students had. It was all very rewarding and fun to do. Kids are so much fun to work with!

Advice

Work in areas you aren’t used to! You’ll end up learning so much about yourself and what you are capable of.

Quality assurance

April - August 2018 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

Flexible schedule, amazing coworkers, and a respectable, safe environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I'd done more hours at the internship but I was taking Summer School Classes at the same time.

Advice

Even if an experience is unpaid, experience in the worn force will always make you stand out compared to a degree.

Teaching Assistant (Preschool, Elementary, Middle, and Secondary School)

June 2018 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I was able to teach kids for the first time under my sole guidance in a classroom setting. Through this process, I formed meaningful relationships with many of my students.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a longer period of training since I was left to be alone in the classroom after only 2 sessions of shadowing. However, I was able to get used to my responsibilities midway into the first summer program (2 weeks).

Advice

To not be afraid to be more hands on. It was an opportunity than involved a lot of individual decision-making and interaction. Be confident and talk to the students at every opportunity.
