Arvest Bank

Credit Analyst Intern

February - May 2021 • Tulsa, OK

What I liked

Team was very helpful in teaching me the ropes. Learned a lot and got to work on live deals for clients.

What I wish was different

Wish I could’ve gotten to try other roles/positions within commercial banking.

Advice

Take advantage of the experience of those you’re working with. Ask questions, ask for advice, and explore the field.

Bank Teller

June - August 2021 • Bentonville, AR

What I liked

Great way to learn about personal finance and banking. Loved my coworkers and the work environment.

What I wish was different

I wish the schedule was a little more flexible and that the required hours to be part-time was less than 20.

Advice

Don't stress out too much. Dealing with other people's finances can be stressful and overwhelming, but just take it one transaction at a time and remember that most mistakes can be corrected.

Enterprise Architect

May 2019 • Lowell, AR

What I liked

I learned a lot about how an IT organization worked from a high level. I was also able to see how decisions are made when leveraging IT solutions to meet business needs. I learned a lot about how to think critically and creatively about issues that exist within a business.

What I wish was different

The enterprise architecture role is a more vague space at times and it was easy to get lost in all the open spaces. I would have liked more solid expectations, but at the same time I feel like the lack thereof helped me to grow.

Advice

Learn how to think outside of the box and think big. It is really easy to get caught up on perceived limitations that aren't really there.

Division Intern

June - August 2019 • Lowell, AR

What I liked

Everything about it was great. Many opportunities to present ideas to management and have support/encouragement to take initiative. Very solid culture of caring about customers, and a workforce that isn’t snooty is very nice for a bank.

Bank Teller

March - August 2019 • Hot Springs National Park, AR

What I liked

The experience as well as the customer service. Different interactions everyday kept the work environment fun.

What I wish was different

The management. Everything was done on a HR and management scale and never really done on a personal ethical level.

Advice

Go out and be a teller at some point in your career. It’s an amazing opportunity and allows the customer service as well as the “Big Brother is always watching” types of settings to interact with one another and make a fun, professional work space.

Enterprise Architect Intern

May - August 2018 • Lowell, AR

What I liked

My supervisors were incredible and allowed me to really jump in and understand the aspects of the company and the department. I went from sitting in on meetings to running a couple. It was really cool to see the positive movement of the projects throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

I wished there had been a few more organized intern meetings outside of the internship. I'm not sure if this is possible or even part of the internship. Having opportunities organized outside of the 8-5 job would be cool.

Advice

Apply for an internship even if you don't think you are qualified. If you want to intern somewhere or in something be open learning and being new.
