The staff was extremely supportive and welcoming. Going into the job, a lot of aspects were new to me, but they never made me feel like I had to figure it out on my own. They were there to advise me whenever I needed it. The weekly check-ins helped a lot.
What I wish was different
There were a lot of students and at some point we needed more staff to support them all. Once we received more support, it helped a lot.
Advice
Be willing to learn as you will encounter a lot of new experiences. Have an open-mind with the students, staff, and families. There are people coming from diverse backgrounds and upbringings. Ask questions when you need support. Be a a positive and encouraging colleague. Be organized with your lesson planning, so activities go as efficiently possible. Take initiative to help with tasks as needed. There are a variety of tasks that need to get done and volunteering to help when asked helps the team.
