About Aspiro Wilderness Adventure Therapy

Now scheduling tryouts for Fall and Winter applicants!

Our field guides work eight-day shifts as the frontline care and supervision for student groups with up to nine clients and three guides. Guides are responsible for safely facilitating adventure itineraries including backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, canyoneering, challenge course and skiing. Guides also work closely with our field and clinical teams to provide individualized mental health care for each student and to facilitate group therapeutic activities.

This job affords an opportunity to help struggling young people develop healthy coping mechanisms and living skills that will aid them throughout life. There are many intense emotional challenges that staff encounter while guiding, however, if you have a growth mindset then you could be greatly rewarded through the struggles and achievements of wilderness therapy guiding.

Wilderness Therapy Guide

“The try-out was more emotionally and mentally difficult than physically difficult. We were constantly taught to make safe and rational decisions in order to keep the students and each other safe and also to ensure that we were creating a therapeutic environment for students to grow in. The guides are all very amazing people and are there because they care about the work and the impact of wilderness therapy. These guides are all very skilled in their own ways which was great when we were placed on teams. We were all able to contribute and help each other. Management is very relaxed in that they are willing to work with guides and develop an actual relationship with guides. I felt cared for and valued while working there. I felt that I was able to create good connections with management. ”
