Agricultural Equipment Operator

What I liked

I learned how to operate a tractor and do some maintenance. Some maintenance was checked on your oil, DEF, twine, and greasing equipment after use. At the same time, I got to work on putting up a lawn because the boss wanted a lawn at the bunkhouse. This project was done by other students and workers that work for Baker Hay.

What I wish was different

Advice

It was a fantastic internship over the summer, and I got to explore some parts of Oregon on my days off. At the same time, I met new people attending school at Oregon State and Eastern Oregon University.

What I liked

A lot of new experiences that I would have never gone through coming from a big city like LA. Paisley is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere and it’s nice getting away from everything and taking a break. The pay and the hospitality my boss provides is amazing and in return he expects his employees to work hard. I liked that I had no idea how to operate any of the tractors or even drive a manual but just in a few weeks I learned not only how to operate my machinery but also the tools I needed to repair damages to my machine.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had a little more time to train and run but it’s okay because I knew going into the job that it was going to be really hard to fit anything in my schedule while working about 70hrs a week.

Advice

Unplug yourself from social media and get out to experience what it’s like to be in a small town. Enjoy the little things like going for a hike or going fishing . Learn some new skills and pay attention to your surroundings.
