Head Lifeguard

September 2014 - August 2019 • Hyrum, UT

What I liked

I liked the flexibility of my hours, and my hourly wage. I loved the people I worked with, and I enjoyed interacting with patrons. I felt extremely confident when I utilized the skill set that this job gave me effectively.

What I wish was different

The last 5 months of my employment there the pool was undergoing extreme renovations, so my job kind of changed from being Head Lifeguard to being a janitor, we really just came in to get hours and cleaned random things to fill the time. The reopen date got pushed back for months, so I never got to work in the renovated pool, that is probably my biggest disappointment.

Advice

Being adaptable is one of the best skills you can have. I went from protecting swimmers and performing first-aid to sweeping floors and cleaning windows. I worked hard in each situation, and being a janitor ended up being more enjoyable than I thought it would, and now I have some janitorial skills I never would have had otherwise.
