Camp Thunderbird

Camp Counselor

What I liked

I've been working at this camp for the past 4 summers and I've loved it. It's pretty laid back and super fun. It was nice to be able to spend the summer outdoors and meet new people that I know are going to be my friends for a lifetime.

What I wish was different

I don't think there is anything I wish were different.

Advice

A lot of people expect a summer camp to be easy work. It is not. You basically raise 6-10 children for 2 months with people that you only recently met. Don't get me wrong, it's the best job I've ever had, but working and living together in large groups can still prove difficult even on the best of days. It's hard work, but it's so super rewarding.

Try it, what else are you going to do all summer. At the very least you'll make some friends and have an adventure.

Camp Counselor

What I liked

Great community to work in. I loved the leadership staff and my co-counselors. Made lasting friendships with people from all over the world. Working in such a unique environment as well as with kids also builds skills that are unlike any others, the intensity will strengthen your skills in ways no other work environment could.

What I wish was different

Some of the training feels redundant, it's very learn-as-you-go and best suited for people with good natural instincts with kids.

Advice

If you love kids, this is an experience out of a movie or storybook. It is a beautiful way to spend a summer, and something anyone who wants to work with kids should do. The opportunities for personal growth are the greatest thing you will gain from this experience.
