Camp Wildwood

office secretary

June 2019 - August 2020 • Bridgton, ME

What I liked

I never had the opportunity to experience summer camp as a kid, so working at one was an amazing thing. I had the chance to work with kids and become their counselor. I gained lots of new experiences but also learned a lot about excel, working with parents, etc. Would recommend this job to anyone! Great way to step out of comfort zone.

Camp Counselor

June - August 2020 • Bridgton, ME

What I liked

Everything! I absolutely love working with kids and this was my second summer at Camp Wildwood so I had some familiar faces to look forward to working with and seeing this summer.

What I wish was different

Like many, of course I wish COVID wouldn’t have been a factor because it limited various “traditions” of camp such as weekly out of camp trips and “inter camp” competitions with other sleepaway camps nearby that are typically fun and looked forward to by both camps and counselors alike!

Advice

If you are looking for a seasonal job somewhere not near your home for a summer or two, you should really look into working at a sleepaway camp! Of course, you must also enjoy working with kids because they can tell when you’re heart is not there. I originally went simply for a change in scenery as I had been working at the same place for 4 summers in my hometown and wanted something new. Now I’ve found a summer home that I hope to get to return to the next few years if all works out!
