Camps Merri-Mac and Timberlake

Camp Counselor

June - August 2020 • Black Mountain, NC

What I liked

I loved how close knit all of the staff was the whole summer. I always felt known and cared for as a person, not just as an employee. So much growth happens while at camp because it is a safe place and you are pushed outside your comfort zone!

What I wish was different

Advice

Be ready to have the best summer of your life, to work hard, to grow personally, and to leave with so many new friends! If you are even thinking about applying, do it. Once you have an interview and you get to talk to the amazing people who you will work for, you will be sold.

Camp counselor/Dance Activity Head

May - August 2018 • Black Mountain, NC

What I liked

Working for Camp Merri-Mac is an incredible summer job opportunity. The second core value is "we develop staff" and I truly believe after working here I have been developed and pushed as a staff member. I was encouraged to grow in my faith, in my leadership, and in my potential. The communication is wonderful throughout the entire hiring process and only becomes smoother as the summer begins. It is truly an encouraging and uplifting place to work and I cannot expresses how valuable my summers with Camp Merri-Mac have been in my life.

What I wish was different

Advice

I would advise future employees to be ready for a summer of growth. There will be challenges and struggles that are unusual because of the nature of the job, but you come out a better and stronger person because of these challenges. Be sure to not take your time at camp for granted and get to know each person there and what value they can bring to your life.

Climbing Expedition Guide

May 2019 • Black Mountain, NC

What I liked

I enjoyed guiding kids ages 8-16 on rock climbing trips that ranged all over North Carolina. I also enjoyed being able to guide multipitch rock climbing trips to Table Rock and Stone Depot, as well as waterfal rappelling trips to Upper Creek Falls.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been A/C in the cabins.

Advice

The kids were very special. Working as a camp counselor is a very humbling experience.
