What I liked

I liked the people I worked with as well as the mission of the organization.

Advice

Many internships in DC are unpaid, so if you can grab one that is paid with a great organization, do it!

Development Intern

June - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I like the culture, the people , and the work I got to be a part of. Everyone was very welcoming from the start. There was a lot of collaborating within the organization which allowed me to work with many who weren't in my direct function.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to be work on other projects that were being done by other functions.

Advice

Definitely do not wait for opportunities to come to you. Ask to participate on as much as you feel you can handle. The worst that can happen is they say, but the effort will not go unoticed.

Program Management and Marketing Intern

May - August 2018 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

My experience served as a reminder to continuously network and maintain good relations with professionals. Not only did I maintain close relationships with my staff and peers, but I also interacted frequently with cancer survivors, families dealing with loss, and community members. I was also thankful to be able to outreach to Latino families, as they are the largest growing minority with astonishing health disparities. As a proficient bilingual, I want to strive to bridge the gap between the world of American medicine and the traditions of Latino culture.
