Manufacturing Engineering Intern

June 2021 • Dublin, CA

What I liked

I loved the team - the people working at Zeiss are extremely friendly and easy to work with. Everyone wanted me to succeed, and was very approachable for questions and advice. The environment was very flexible and supportive, which was very nice. Additionally, I felt like I learned a lot about manufacturing engineering and the products that Zeiss makes.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I really enjoyed the internship and wouldn't change a thing!

Advice

I found that the people you work with matter a lot more than the product you are working on. Originally, I was looking for something in aerospace, but I have really loved working at Zeiss, because the people are so great. Plus, our products are really cool.

Software Engineering Intern

June - September 2019 • Dublin, CA

What I liked

The leniency they had with interns and patience they had for when we had to learn new things. Actually experiencing how things happen in a workplace.

What I wish was different

More hands on and coding or problem solving projects and less research/googling projects.

Advice

Don't be afraid of being a little clueless at the start, ask questions, it may be uncomfortable at first but you will prove yourself within a month or working.

Product Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Dublin, CA

What I liked

I loved getting to experience such a large company environment and getting to know the ins and outs of product marketing. I was able to learn more from being a part of the process than I could have ever picked up in a classroom.

Finance and Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Bangalore, Karnataka

What I liked

I got to work directly with people high up in the department: I met with a financial controller every 3 days to discuss progress and checked in with the CFO every week for a short meeting as well. This exposed me to more direct mentorship and advice which was really valuable.

What I wish was different

I spent a lot of time in front of my computer processing and analyizing data, which I learnt a lot from, but I do wish I got to spend more time in meetings and observe everyday tasks that employees worked on.

Advice

One thing that I noticed working in a company where there is no real internship program, I had a lot of say in what I got to do. I did not realize this until very late so I was not able to use my time extremely optimally, but if you find yourself in a company where they are creating work for you, make sure you talk to your supervisors about your ideas and your interests as well as things you want to learn, because they will be more than willing to tailor your project to that, and it will make it easier for them to do so too. Keep communicating!

Field Application Engineer

August 2018 • Maple Grove, MN

What I liked

The independence of maintaining my own schedule and knowing there was trust put in me to do my work and go through training efficiently.

What I wish was different

Some weeks are just slow so I wish there could've been stuff for me do in those times (I'm sure there will be more weeks like that).

Advice

It's never too early to start applied for jobs after graduation (or internships during the summer). NEVER. I started applying in January of 2018 and didn't get an offer until August.
