What I wish was different
Management is not the best. The employee culture in general focuses more on being friends before anything. When I was new, the only way people would converse with me was by talking badly about others which made me uncomfortable. Dishwashing was very exhausting as well. Most of the cooks would just slam and throw pots and pans into the sink with zero organization. You have to learn to work with the rush of dishes that come at the end of the day. Also, these kitchens don't need food handler certification which is very concerning because new dishwashers don't get taught the proper way to use the dishwashing sinks. Training is just telling us to use "your own system" rather than getting a more detailed training which leads to being over dependent on the dishwashing machine which isn't quick enough to beat the end of the day rush before you have to clock out. Also, the machine broke for two weeks and they didn't compensate me for that, it was painful and one of the managers from the office in fact came in and told me I missed a spot on a cup which was really rude. Additionally, the drains were clogging up and they waited until nothing could go down to fix it. The maintenance people are also rude whenever something breaks, they like to blame the employees but the company itself is terrible at training so who is really to blame. They are also always angry because they are overloaded with things to do and the company itself won't spend more money to help make their jobs easier. But that's corporate America.
