St. Vincent's Food Pantry Volunteer

October 2018 • Reno, NV

What I liked

I'm able to directly impact the food-insecure communities in Reno, and I definitely like being able to help out the people who need it the most. The other volunteers and workers are also nice and friendly, which also helps.

What I wish was different

Sometimes the tasks can be very repetitive, such as when I bag food items for our Feeding Families holiday food bundle program. I wish it didn't feel so monotonous and repetitive, but considering the nature of the tasks, there isn't much to be changed about it.

Advice

Being open-minded is key, as you interact with a lot of people throughout a single day. Without a way of knowing who the other person really is and how they are, you need to be open-minded to consider things from their unknown perspective.
