Camp Counselor

What I liked

I loved how immersed in nature I was at this job! We lived in the redwood forest and the cabins had no electricity. Nights and mornings alone were more than peaceful and provided plenty of time for personal reflection and growth.

What I wish was different

I wish the summer was longer! Camp sessions ran only from June 25 to August 2, and I could've been there at least a month more.

Advice

Working with kids (but it my case teenagers) can be incredibly challenging to one's patience and mental, physical, and emotional energy. Taking time for yourself is essential to make the experience memorable for not only yourself but especially for the kids you're spending the week with.

What I liked

I enjoyed the close proximity to Washington D.C and opportunities to witness legislative hearings. This also allowed for great networking opportunities with people of many different backgrounds.

What I wish was different

I wish the projects were better structured and pushed us to work up until the end of the internship.

Don't be afraid to ask questions and reach out to people for advice in the field!
