Event Services Intern

March - August 2019 • Cedarville, OH

What I liked

My favorite part about the internship was the independence I had while planning and working, as well as the problem-solving skills I had to obtain. I also got to learn how to use Basecamp, which is very helpful when it comes to keeping everything organized. The job pushed me towards my passions and revealed to me that I would love to further my career in event planning.

What I wish was different

It would have been helpful to have some more direction about my specific job title because there was often confusion about the difference between my job position and other job positions that were held over the summer, too.

Advice

Though event planning may seem stressful and overbearing, taking your event one step at a time and coming up with an organized action plan will help you get through it and ultimately make the experience of the event memorable and easy for those attending and participating. Sitting down with the big picture, having and sticking to a vision, and eventually splitting up steps and delegating detailed tasks will help you maximize the experience with joy!

Administrative Assistant

January 2016 - May 2019 • Cedarville, OH

What I liked

The people were so wonderful! I also enjoyed organizing, having the ability to create and execute my own organizational systems, and I really loved being active and running all over campus, interacting with many different people.

What I wish was different

I wish that when I had come into the job, there had been better details on how to do what I was expected to do. The first few months would have gone a lot smoother. I created a continuity binder for the next person who has this job.

Advice

Pay attention closely and make sure you right things down! Also, take it easy when you make a mistake and don't assume everyone hates you. It makes it a lot harder to enjoy the job!

Student Web Developer to Front End Web Designer/Developer Intern

May 2019 • Cedarville, OH

What I liked

It is good to stay sharp on talking to clients and working on the web everyday. It builds a sense of intuition with the technology. I received a promotion right at the end and can work it until I graduate if I desire. The staff are very personal and want to know about you. It is a casual work environment that is friendly, family oriented, and flexible with you.

What I wish was different

The biggest thing is just being behind a locked door with few windows. Not anything that can be helped, but I have learned that it is a hurdle sometimes in productivity.

Advice

Be excited and feel free to collaborate and suggest things. Listen to every word that comes from the director as he often says exactly what you need to know in one well-crafted sentence and can be easy to miss. So be alert! The staff have a great sense of humor, get to know them!

Student Web Developer

May 2018 • Cedarville, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the hands on experience and working with other departments and solving problems with design. I also enjoyed learning more back-end solutions.

What I wish was different

There were some times that it was more slow, however, it was no fault of the company.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions. It is much better to do that than assume you know what you are doing. It is the nature of Website work to change rapidly, so even if a couple weeks ago it operated one way, it may change in the next hour.
