CEMEX

Human Resources IDP (Internship Development Program)

May - August 2022 • Houston, TX

What I liked

I personally really enjoy the work environment. Everyone at the office is so welcoming and always looking for an opportunity for you to grow. CEMEX offers a lot of flexibility with schedules, hours, and even virtual options which has also been very nice. I overall really enjoy working for this company and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a potential employer.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to be fully immersed in this program for a longer period of time rather than just a small section. This company offers a ton of opportunities and I wish I was able to see all those aspects from a longer perspective.

Advice

I would recommend for everyone to ask questions and put yourself out there. CEMEX and their employees are very open to suggestions and ways to make their company better in the future.

Human Resources Co-Op/Externship

January - May 2023 • Houston, TX

What I liked

I enjoyed seeing the corporate side of the operations at CEMEX. I feel like my experiences from my last summer internship with CEMEX have let me grow and build on my previously acquired skills. I have been able to experience additional rotations within corporate and feel like I have a good sense of how the company operates and where I would like to end up within HR. I have been able to do lots of fun/additional opportunities that have made this experience stand out to me.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to be more equally involved with all of the HR teams at CEMEX. For some teams, I was only able to participate in small assignments and did not get as much experience in certain areas as I would have preferred.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about my experience is to always ask questions and be as flexible as possible. In order to get the most out of your internship, you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone and try new things that you wouldn't normally do.

Human Resources Intern

January - May 2022 • Naples, FL

What I liked

I really enjoyed the hands on experience that I received during this internship. I was involved in a variety of tasks and shown what it was really like to work in HR and to cover a region. I liked that there was the ability to see every step of the hiring process and to actually participate and do my own new hire classes/orientations. I liked that they let you have freedom in what you wanted to learn and participate in.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was in the summer IDP program to be able to rotate and work with more departments. Otherwise, I believe that I got a great hands-on experience that showed me what I would be doing in my future career.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share would be to make the program your own. Ask to participate in tasks that interest you. Put your foot forward and ask to learn more. This looks great to Cemex and can get you a shot at a full-time role when you graduate.

Talent Development Program

June 2022 • Prescott, AZ

What I liked

This program is very detailed and hands on. If you are hands on like me I highly recommend this program. Everyday I come to work I am faced with new and ongoing challenges no day is the same. The culture of CEMEX is one that will keep you waiting to come into work everyday. If you are looking for a hands on program and are willing to learn look no further CEMEX is for you!

What I wish was different

As of right now I would not change anything. The management that runs this program is very informative and wants to see their TDP succeed in the workplace. If you have any questions about the program or duties as a TDP the director is SUPER fast to get back to you and give you all the information that you may need. There has been no point where I feel lost or unsure on what to do. For this reason I enjoy the program and believe everything is running simple, easy, and smooth.

Advice

One piece of advise I would give upcoming or potential TDP's is to make the most of your program. The program is only going to be good as you make it. The amount of opportunities you have to network is insane. This company is filled with great employees and great customers. If you work hard you will be rewarded!
