Children's Chorus of San Antonio

Data Analytics Intern

May - July 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

I loved the friendly environment of the organization. The Executive Director at the time was very welcoming and understanding. She always looked out for me and ensured that I was learning as much as I could in the way that worked best for me! I had the opportunity to test my skills in a variety of roles because this non-profit is so small. I worked in marketing, accounting, data analytics, and HR all at once. It was a great way for me to gauge my interest in each area while continuing to develop my skills. Best of all, all of my work went towards helping children learn and grow through music. I managed the back-end so that they could have great rehearsals, great concerts, and build great friendships.

What I wish was different

I wish the workplace guidelines and expectations were outlined more clearly. A lot of my work was very general and self-guided. While useful, there were often days at a time where I was left with nothing to do and no permission to begin my own self-guided projects or instructions for what to do next.

Advice

Find ways to keep busy. Your boss won't always have things for you to do, but it's really up to you to clarify expectations that feel unclear and find ways to be useful.
