Health and Safety Engineer Intern

June - August 2021 • Sulphur, LA

What I liked

Everything from the work to the people was great! Great atmosphere and work/life balance.

What I wish was different

More projects/working across groups.

Advice

Definitely network and go out to meet different departments. If you are interested in something, ask a question. It lead me to find other engineering disciplines that I was not aware of and future opportunities. Make friends across the refinery and with contractors.

CO-OP Environmental Engineer

May - August 2021 • Lake Charles, LA

What I liked

The group I worked in was encouraging and team oriented. My supervisor always provided work that challenged me to grow while never overwhelming me. The experience opened my options up to environmental engineering positions after graduation.

What I wish was different

I wish the term could have lasted longer. I enjoyed my work and didn't want the job to end.

Advice

Teamwork and communications skills go a long way in engineering positions. Be sure to take projects that expose you to other engineering disciplines to broaden your knowledge.

Process Engineer Intern

May 2019 • Corpus Christi, TX

What I liked

The people are very nice and explain anything you do not understand. The projects they give you are important and will be useful to the company. For example, I was able to help raise a set point on a tank, so it can fit more volume. It is very interesting to get to work on real future projects and be a part of something in such a large company.

What I wish was different

It was a great learning experience, and I do not have anything negative to say about it.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions. They know you are just starting off and are expecting you to ask questions. It will not make you look stupid and will help you do your job better.

Every day is a new adventure where I am learning real-world skills being used currently in the company. My projects actually affect real people onsite and in remote locations such as refineries.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have started sooner is the only thing that comes to mind.

Advice
