The Inclusion Team is amazing. We all work well together and the Director and Coordinator are extremely good at their job. Everyone on the team truly cares about DEI work and the communities we work with
What I wish was different
The organization outside of the Inclusion Team is not ready for DEI work. We constantly get stopped from completing work and are valued less than other groups like conservatives. The overall organization's DEI work is a façade
Advice
It is a challenging job with the rest of the organization not supporting you but your time with the Inclusion Team itself will be some of the best relationships you ever make

Communication
June - September 2020 • Grass Valley, CA
What I liked
I loved being involved with a community of diverse backgrounds working to get climate change legislation on the ballot. I also appreciated my time spent lobbying and organizing lobbying efforts with my community representative. I learned a lot about the impact of local politics.
What I wish was different
I wish the internship would have been a bit more focused on specific goals. The plan was set up broadly and mostly required self-motivation and organization. Clear leadership for the internship would have been much better.
Advice
I think everyone should volunteer with CCL! They are a national group getting people involved in politics. We need groups like this right now more than ever, to motivate communities and empower people.
