CITY Furniture

Sales Intern

May - July 2023 • Wellington, FL

What I liked

During my internship, I truly enjoyed the training process. The staff members created a welcoming atmosphere, and there was an abundance of valuable knowledge to acquire. I firmly believe that their teaching approach was highly effective. The store I was placed in had very welcoming employees, I fit in easily and had a great time working here. I engaged with others and had the opportunity to meet numerous delightful colleagues and customers.

What I wish was different

All in all, there isn't any significant change I would suggest. Maybe incorporating even more one-on-one hands-on training instead of group sessions could be beneficial. I loved working here!

Advice

Entering the store post-training was nerve-wracking. My confidence wasn't at its peak, and I feared making errors. However, my first customer was understanding and patient with my inexperience. She didn't mind my need to research or seek assistance from colleagues for her inquiries. My advice is to maintain an open mind, stay calm, and recognize that starting at the bottom is part of the journey for everyone. While some customers may be pleasant, others may not be as kind. Nevertheless, always strive to maintain a positive attitude and aim for positive outcomes in your interactions.

Sales Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Miami, FL

What I liked

I loved the culture of City Furniture and how I was able to learn and grow in an amazing environment. I was able to better develop my communication skills, taking on average of 20 customers a day, working with them and either helping them solve whatever problem they encountered. Also, I was able to enhance my Spanish, From only knowing a few words in Spanish, I am now able to text, read, and write to fluent Spanish speaking individuals. From this internship, I learned learn how important it is to work for a company that values you as an employee. From meeting the CEO on my first day of training, to going bowling with the other interns and recruiters, and having an annual intern dinner at the President's house, I immediately felt as I was a part of the City Family. When working for City Furniture, if I ever had a question or needed aid with anything, my coworkers and mangers were always by my side to aid me. Their culture was very inviting. Typically when students think of a great company to work for post grad, they tend to look for a company that will offer them a high paying salary. But, after starting to work for t the company, they may realize that they are unhappy wherever they work and not only think of the money. I realized how important it is to work somewhere that you have the ability to grow, be valued, and move up in.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that could have been different in my experience was my involvement in doing managerial duties. Although I am very grateful for the sales aspect of my internship, I would have appreciated being more involved with the mangers and being able to shadow them and learn some things that they do on a daily basis since the internship is .

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share is to never underestimate a industry or company , when looking for opportunities to grow in your career. As college students, we tend to over or under-look opportunities based on what we think it may offer to us without even giving it the chance. Prior to my internship with city furniture, the idea of being in the furniture industry seemed absurd to me. Now, as I am looking for a company to grow with after I graduate, I take into account everything that I've learned from my experience with City Furniture, have an open mind, and definitely research about the companies.
