Size and Population
The City of Mount Clemens is 4.2 square miles in size. We have a population of 16,314. We also add about 6,500 people during the work day.

Form of Government
The City of Mount Clemens operates under the Commission/Manager form of government. This means the City Commission, made up of the Mayor and six City Commission members, formulates policy while the City Manager and staff administer the day-to-day operations of the City in line with the policy direction of the Commission.

History
The City of Mount Clemens has a long and rich history as one of the oldest cities in the State of Michigan. Mount Clemens was established by our founder, Christopher Clemens, in 1818. For decades, Mount Clemens was a vacation destination of choice for the Untied States and beyond due to our renowned mineral baths.

Accessibility
Mount Clemens is approximately 20 miles northeast of Downtown Detroit. Downtown Mount Clemens is convenient and accessible to the entire Metropolitan Detroit region by four major Southeastern Michigan transportation corridors:
•I-94/Ford Freeway is located on the eastern edge of the City’s boundaries, less than two miles from the downtown.
•M-59/Hall Road is two miles north of Downtown.
•Metropolitan Parkway/16 Mile Road is just south of Mount Clemens.
•I-696/Reuther Freeway is just six miles south of Downtown.
