Manufacturing Engineering Co-op

May - December 2019 • Kalona, IA

What I liked

I received a lot of freedom to learn and make mistakes. There was a lot of encouragement to ask questions and to collaborate between departments. I had the opportunity to own 2 medium sized projects throughout my co-op.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more cross-over of responsibilities between design, manufacturing, and quality. I would have loved to get more experience in design or quality.

Advice

Collaborate with other departments as much as possible. For me, consulting with the machine shop and mechanical designers before designing fixtures was important to not waste materials and to take advantage of the tool sizes they already have.
