Legal Intern

May - August 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

I enjoyed the Lawyer that I mentored under, she walked me through the court procedure. I also learned how to research case law, which has helped me significantly during this semester of classes. I also observed court on a day-to-day basis, which gave me an in-depth idea of what a lawyer does. It ultimately helped me determine my career path and gave me significant experience in the work I will be doing.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship extended into the fall semester because it was a fantastic experience.

Advice

One piece of advice for students who potentially want to go to law school is to intern with a lawyer, or under a lawyer, or in a clerks office. Interning only pushed me further into this career field, however, the other person I interned with determined he did not want to become a lawyer. It was solely based on the experiences we had at the law firm, but it helped make up our minds.
