Patient Care Associate

June 2019 • Toms River, NJ

What I liked

Working with doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other patient care associates to provide quality care for the patients. It becomes fulfilling work aiding patients who are unable to care for themselves, and having those patients express their thanks.

What I wish was different

Being responsible for a lot of patients can leave the quality of care for each patient to be less desired. If there were fewer patients that I was responsible for, I could provide better quality of care to my patients instead of rushing to just finish each task that the patients ask for.

Advice

If your career goal lies within the health care industry, early exposure to it would be the best approach to gaining experience. Working at the hospital as a patient care associate gives you an insight into how patients and staff interact and what responsibilities are given to each profession. This job allows for personal and career growth in that you will develop social skills and medical knowledge necessary for the healthcare industry.
