Covestro

Co-op

January - December 2016 • South Charleston, WV

What I liked

A lot of freedom to work on projects that interest you. Great exposure to working in a chemical plant!

What I wish was different

There was no ability to spend different rotations at different sites.

Advice

Try new things! And don't be afraid to ask questions, the employees understand you know very little and are willing to help.

Pressure Safety Chemical Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Baytown, TX

What I liked

I liked how diverse and well rounded the full time engineers onsite were. The sense of collaboration to finish projects was very inspiring, especially when it comes to very hard and detail oriented projects. I liked how there was a buddy system within the company in which the students connect with other full timers other than the ones in their division. I liked how they involve the students in lots of real life projects and ask them questions as with the same level of seriousness as anyone else.

What I wish was different

Advice

ASK QUESTIONS!!! Keep a notepad with you and note down what you have learned each and every day. Experiment with all sorts of tools that are your disposal. NETWORK! Important.

Technical Intern in Product Safety & Regulatory Affairs

May - August 2018 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

Great company with respect to its people culture and the rigor of its science.

What I wish was different

I wish I had known that in applying to the "Technical" internships, I had the chance to be placed in a non-research position, which ultimately I was.

Advice

Make sure that you know precisely what your position/department is going to be before you accept a position (for peace of mind). If you're willing to comply with a hire-then-assign protocol like Covestro's, then it's no problem. And I should add that I had a wonderful experience.
