Coye Law Firm

Legal Intern

August - December 2018 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

I learned how to prioritize tasks, handle a large workload, manage the team, and how to communicate effectively. There are very (few) lovely people who I am grateful to have had a chance to work with.

What I wish was different

I wish I knew what I was getting myself into. They are unprofessional with their interns and yell at them constantly. They say that if you do everything that they ask you to, you have the chance to move up after a few months, which is a lie. Also, no one will speak up so I wish I wasn't too scared to speak up for myself.

Advice

Unless you like being constantly anxious because you might have made a mistake, being yelled at, dealing with awful clients, memorizing a bunch of useless information that only applies to this law firm, and feeling uncomfortable whenever the main lawyer is there. Don't work here.

Intern

January 2018 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

The other interns were great to work with

What I wish was different

Better training

Advice

The legal intern position is just a front desk job. It’s not really an internship. You only answer phone calls all day and check mail. Turnover is also high.

Legal Intern

May - September 2018 • Winter Park, FL

What I liked

The director of marketing cared a lot about the interns and I was able to gain legal knowledge.

What I wish was different

I wish I had spoken to the other interns about their experience before accepting the position. The head of marketing and the other front desk interns are the kindest people at the firm.

Advice

Decide which department interests you most and offer help until they give you responsibilities. This will lead to you being an intern in that specific department.
