Crunch Fitness Gym

July - September 2018 • Portchester, NY

What I liked

I am passionate about health and fitness. I enjoyed being immersed in a gym environment and getting to know all of the members at the club. I was able to learn about accounting by doing invoices for the monthly memberships. I made sure the members were paying their monthly fees on time, and if they hadn't, I would contact them and we would evaluate their finances and see if we could figure out a payment option that worked towards their current budget.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish had been different is more accounting and finance and less manual labor. Although I was able to learn about the back end, business side of running a gym, I also had to clean the gym on a regular basis. I understand the importance of keeping the facilities in tact, but that was not an enjoyable part about my position, because I didn't feel like I was taking much away from cleaning a gym.

Advice

The one piece of advice I would share is to make sure you chose a job/internship that you have a passion for. I often had long shifts, but I never felt like I was working, I was in an environment where I wanted to be in and was able to thrive because of it. I am very glad I got to work at a gym and learn how a gym is run from the bottom up. It was an experience I will be able to take with me for many years to come.
