Cummins Inc.

Light duty pick up vehicle powertrain engineer

May - August 2017 • Columbus, IN

What I liked

I like how much freedom and actual responsibility they put into their interns and co-ops. What you will do will affect real world things that involve the company. My work will impact future products and how they perform for Cummins customers.

What I wish was different

There is nothing I would really change.

Advice

If you do not like your work experience you shouldn't decide to switch majors. Find something that really interests you, try to find that work experience and then decide what you want your future to be like. Also do not settle for anything. A job is way worse if you hate it than enjoy it.

Finance Intern

June - August 2018 • Columbus, IN

What I liked

Great culture, meaningful work given to interns to prepare them for an actual job in the future, great internship program set up by the recruiters to get the interns involved and make connections with one another

What I wish was different

Some days the interns did not have much lined up to do from a work perspective if they were only involved in bigger projects, so more day to day activities would have kept them more busy

Advice

If you plan on considering Cummins as a long-term option for your employment do your best to make as many connections as possible. Any person you have a conversation with could be your next boss either as your first position after being hired or later on in your career.

Product Validation Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Seymour, IN

What I liked

The culture of the company is great. My manager was very helpful in introducing me to the specifics of my role. My team members were nice and I was actually given work that added value to the company; work that - if I were not there - would been given to a full time engineer.

What I wish was different

The location is a bit boring, not much to do. It’s more like a small town than a city. There’s a nice community of employees that live in the area though. Also, we were not given a housing stipend and housing is a bit difficult to find in the area but HR can be really helpful and understanding.

Advice

Come prepared to learn because you will be given actual work. Brush up on you technical skills as well.
