Debris Free Oceans

Chef Andrew Scholar

August 2020 - January 2021 • Miami, FL

What I liked

I loved the people I got to work with and being part of a larger community in my hometown! Everyone is so passionate and motivated to work hard to drive change. The Debris Free Oceans family is so inspiring and I'm honored to be apart of it. I also got to learn so much more about what drives a nonprofit and how important it is to be in tune with the local community.

What I wish was different

Nothing on their part but I will forever wish I got to finish the year under normal circumstances and not to have been so affected by covid-19.

Advice

Do as much as you can! Take every opportunity as a chance to learn more and get the most out of the internship.

Nonprofit

August 2018 • Miami Beach, FL

What I liked

Exposure to different sides of the nonprofit world. Meeting lots of interesting people in this field in Miami that I would not have met otherwise! Everything I learned from being surrounded by incredibly humble and knowledgeable women that guided me every step of the way!

What I wish was different

Absolutely nothing!

Advice

Networking is key, talk to those around you and ask them to talk about themselves. You never know who you'll meet and who will find you interesting and can provide some help along the way. The environmental nonprofit world very much depends on whom you can make connections with and what they can put on the table.
