I really gained a sense of worth from working with students who were challenged in terms of math skills. It taught me that students really do WANT to learn but may have obstacles that they cannot overcome themselves.
What I wish was different
I wish that it had been a full time volunteer experience, instead of 24 hours per week. I was enjoying it!
Advice
Brace yourself for the raw nature of language among some of the students; they do not tailor their diction to the presence of a new adult! It is important to stay focused upon what you came to do - teach.

What I liked
I have the opportunity to impact both staff and students with technology integration. I can recommend technology to administration and I sponsor the school technology club. I feel that I am a real leader in my school.
What I wish was different
Not everyone embraces technology integration, so I don’t have the best time in all classes. Also, I tried for a district position and never even got an interview. The district lags behind in upgrading technolog.
Advice
Find an administrator that you can work for and then work your way into the position you want within the school. It is far better to have the right support from administration than to land a “dream job” that becomes a nightmare from an ill fitting supervisor.
