We worked hard and got started very early, but the work was very enjoyable. There was a lot of time spent on horseback and handling cattle. I got to learn a lot of finer points about managing a large cow herd and I was able to expand my hands-on skills.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to start my internship earlier to get a taste of calving season.
Advice
Before working on a large ranch like this, I would at least be comfortable on horseback and have an open mindset. Everyone does things differently, but you can learn wherever you go.
