About District Department of Transportation (DDOT)

The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) manages and maintains all transportation infrastructures in the nation’s capital. DDOT does the following:
• Plan, design, construct and maintain the District's bridges, streets, alleys, sidewalks, traffic signals, street lights, and all capital projects
• Manage and make improvements to the transportation infrastructure to facilitate traffic flow throughout the District
• Snow and ice removal coordination and activities during snow emergencies
• Coordinate the District's mass transit services, including the reduced-fare program for students using MetroBus and MetroRail
• DDOT is responsible for the planning, designing, building, and maintenance of 1,100 miles of streets, 241 bridges, 1,600 miles of sidewalk, 453 miles of alleys and 144,000 city street trees
