Eagle Elastomer, Inc.

Engineering Intern

May - August 2023 • Cuyahoga Falls, OH

What I liked

This was my first engineering related work experience, and it was a great first experience to have. All of the people at the company were very welcoming and easy to talk to if I ever needed help with anything. This job has given me a far better understanding of what engineers do on the day to day, especially chemical engineers. This work experience really showed me that I am in the right field and have chosen the right major to stick with. I worked on a handful of projects, but most of what I did was time studies on the production floor. I also did a lot of data entry and editing certain parts of entries in the software system.

What I wish was different

I was the only intern at the company while I was there as it is a fairly small company, and because of that it doesn't have a very fleshed out internship program. They had projects and tasks planned out for me, but sometimes I would get ahead on them and then not have a whole lot to do. Business was also a little slow while I was there, so I might have had more to work on at a better time. That was really the only issue I had while at this company, everything else was great.

Advice

If I could go back and give myself some advice before starting at this job, I would tell myself not to get overwhelmed at first, as well as to try and be more involved. As I mentioned earlier this was my first engineering related work experience, so I really didn't know what to expect going in. On top of that, I didn't know a whole lot about the rubber industry going in so there were a lot of terms that I was unfamiliar with when I first started that I had to learn. As for being more involved, I definitely just needed to put myself out there more and ask more questions, especially when I first started, but this was something that I got better at the longer I stayed at the company.
