Being part of such a new and unique program, service learning, was a very rewarding experience. I think the program is great for valuable, long-term learning for secondary students and I’m glad I was able to help spread the program a bit.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been able to spend more time on site in order to get an even more varied experience.
Advice
To any public educator, whether they be a teacher, guidance counselor, or administrative official, I would suggest looking up ways to implement service learning projects into your school or district. It’s a great way to get students engaged, critically thinking, and involved in their community.
