Our History

Families and Youth, Inc., (FYI) began as Children in Need of Services (CHINS) in April 1977 as a pilot project. CHINS became incorporated and designated as a nonprofit 501c3 in 1979. The agency was later renamed Families & Youth, Inc. in 1987 to reflect the agency’s expansion of services to the community.

FYI has become a trusted change agency in the community and a dynamic, vital, and integral component in providing youth and their families with rich opportunities to discover and follow more positive alternative paths in making their decisions and choices in life.

FYI continuously interacts with the community and values the feedback it receives to successfully develop and implement prevention, intervention, treatment, and advocacy service models that address the most complex and ever evolving community needs.

FYI also conducts ongoing evaluation, assessment, and quality improvement processes to ensure services and programs offered by FYI continue to be effective, efficient, and impactful; leading to the continued fulfillment of FYI’s Mission “To promote a safer and healthier community by focusing on families and children”.

Families and Youth, Inc., headquarters is located at 1320 S. Solano in Las Cruces New Mexico and has several satellite offices in Sunland Park, Anthony, Deming, Hatch, T or C, and Socorro, New Mexico.
