Strategic Planner

June - August 2020 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved the people. One thing that made this virtual internship so fulfilling was that everyone at FCB was there to support us. Not only the team, but other interns, as well. There were 60 other interns, and I was able to work with 10 of them during my time at FCB. Amidst a pandemic and a summer storm, they reminded me why team work and collaboration was something that FCB valued the most—I will always cherish my times with them and the connections I made!

What I wish was different

The obvious, I wish we would have been in the office to partake in FCB Academy. However, despite a changing landscape, FCB was prepared to adapt and be flexible with our needs as interns and students. As much as I wish we were all together in person, I wouldn't have had the chance to present in front of FCB's CEO, Kelly Graves and get a stellar kudos for the strategy I developed for my team.

Advice

At the beginning of the year, I was very uncertain about my plans for the summer and what I wanted to do for my career. Especially during a time of uncertainty, I was frantic that I wouldn't be able to find an internship. But that didn't stop me. I networked and persisted with the people and connections I had made during my time at DePaul. FCB found me and I am eternally grateful for that. My advice is to never stop trying, no matter what. You'll be surprised at how many opportunities might just open up for you!

Account Management

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I was given a lot of ownership on the work I completed. I was always busy helping out my team. It was an amazing learning experience and was a very empowering internship.

What I wish was different

Really not much -- I think they do an absolutely amazing job with their internship programs. The one downside is the starting salary (if you receive an offer) is incredibly low.

Advice

Completely immerse yourself in the agency and constantly ask your team for work. It is the best way to learn and make a strong impression.

Account Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

FCB Chicago is a large, full-service advertising agency that is a part of the Interpublic Group (IPG). I worked on several accounts in FCBX, the experiential agency within FCB Chicago. As an Account Management Intern, I primarily had the opportunity to learn about both traditional and experiential marketing. I also had the opportunity to interface with clients, manage timelines and budgets on accounts, and participate in group strategy sessions; including those for new business.

What I wish was different

I would have loved to play more of a role in the creative realm

Advice

Be the best "people person" you can be. Interact, connect and admire the people you meet. You make a good impression of yourself and learn a thing or two in the process.
