What I liked
I enjoyed my internship experience as a Retail Supervisory Modeling Team Intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Several aspects of the internship were appealing to me.
Firstly, I appreciated the opportunity to work with a highly skilled and knowledgeable team. The colleagues and mentors I collaborated with during my internship were not only experts in their fields but also very supportive in helping me learn and grow. This made the work environment both enriching and enjoyable.
Secondly, I found the work itself to be intellectually stimulating and relevant to my academic and career interests. Analyzing and modeling data related to retail supervision was not only challenging but also provided me with valuable insights into the financial industry and regulatory processes.
What I wish was different
I would have appreciated even more opportunities for cross-functional projects or exposure to different departments within the organization. While I was able to gain valuable experience in my specific role, a broader perspective of the various functions of the Federal Reserve could have been beneficial.
Advice
I would recommend being proactive and taking the initiative to seek out additional learning opportunities. Don't hesitate to reach out to colleagues and mentors for guidance and networking. Additionally, make the most of the resources available at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, such as training programs and seminars, to further enhance your skills and knowledge.

What I liked
I absolutely loved my internship at the Fed! I learned so much in a short amount of time. I enjoyed the data analytics I was able to delve during the internship. The Fed was able to offer the internship completely virtual during the pandemic.

Ask as many questions as you possibly can! Whenever you don’t understand something or need further clarification, don’t hesitate to ask more questions. Everyone is always super helpful and willing to answer your questions. They actually like to see that you’re engaged and asking questions.

I would suggest not worrying too much about whether you are super qualified for the position you want (within reason, of course) because the people you work with are always ready to help and generally one of the nicest group of people I have ever met.

What I liked
I liked working for such a large organization and getting to meet so many people from so many different departments and backgrounds. Also they gave me a lot of responsibility which was nice, because I felt like I had a purpose, rather than just being the intern to grab coffee and scan documents. In addition I was able to learn so much about the banking industry which I had very little knowledge of before starting.
What I wish was different
I wish that there was an overarching project that all of the interns from all of the different departments could have worked on. Whether that be a charitable event, or fundraising, or some other type of community engagement project. There were so many of us, and we all possessed different skills and knowledge. It would have been nice to enhance my teamwork abilities and get to know the other interns better, while also contributing to a greater cause.
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions at your internship. When I started at the Fed, everything seemed so foreign and the majority of the concepts I'd never heard of before. I found myself asking my mentors and managers a ton of questions. Not only did I learn a lot more by asking questions, but my managers appreciated me showing the interest in furthering my knowledge of the Federal Reserve and banking in general.
