Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin

Development Intern

May - August 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with and the environment is very friendly and chill. There are a lot of great people to meet and opportunities to learn about the issue of hunger if you dig to find those opportunities and make the effort to.

What I wish was different

I wish I had worked with more of the other departments more than I did. I was able to work with a lot of the positions with the development and communications department but I wish I was able to work more with the member services department or spend more time leading volunteers in the back warehouse.

Advice

Go in with an open mind and a positive attitude and you will learn so much. Always be willing to take on tasks and meet new people because there is so much to learn and so many people who can share their knowledge with you. I learned so much from my time there and it is my favorite workplace I have been in thusfar.

Member Services Intern

May - August 2018 • Appleton, WI

What I liked

I got hands-on project management experience and was giving a good level of responsibility. I learned how to do things on my own and got to learn about a wonderful company and the work they're doing.

What I wish was different

I initially asked to get involved with food recovery and got involved with a different project. However, I learned a lot more than I expected and I think the experience was worth it, even though it was unpaid. I wish there was some more follow-up of what is happening with my project after I left, but I will just have to follow-up personally then!

Advice

Don't be afraid to sign up for something that you don't think you're prepared for- you're likely going to surprise yourself and be capable of handling it.
