Fletcher

Operations Research Analyst Intern

February - May 2024 • Burlington, VT

What I liked

Because Fletcher is a small company, the internship program receives a lot of exposure to the core business. I greatly enjoyed jumping onto research projects and seeing my efforts realized in the final product. Trainings and support was abundant from the team. Everybody was happy to have me and were excited to teach me the necessary skills to provide value. I am very pleased with my experience at Fletcher.

What I wish was different

Most of the Fletcher team works remotely. I would have prefered a more active office experience. With that in mind, my teammates were very easy to contact and works streams were hardly impacted because of location.

Advice

Be ready to learn. There were many experiences that were new to me and frankly outside my comfort zone. Being willing to jump in the deep end and take on a new challenge helped me pick up quite a few skills. Also ask questions! The goal of research is to understand something you do not understand; the way to achieve that is through thoughtful and tactical questioning.

What I liked

I did not have experience in the consulting world prior to my internship, and Fletcher was a great way to gain industry knowledge and develop skills in professionalism. My experience was extremely hands-on, and I was able to contribute to the entire workflow of projects. My internship pushed me to be more autonomous, and I never found myself idle or wishing that the work I did had a greater impact.

What I liked

The internship was a great experience. I contributed to projects for Fortune 500 companies. It was a valuable experience allowing me to improve my writing and communication skills and learn about the industry. As a UVM student, the location, Mill St., was ideal for a semester internship. Fletcher has a great culture. Learning is encouraged, and everyone is very willing to help you. I highly recommend the opportunity if you have an interest in consulting!

What I liked

Fletcher/CSI is an excellent place to intern and has a positive learning environment. During my time at Fletcher/CSI, I worked on material that was directly presented to clients and contributed to meaningful projects. As an intern, I was given responsibility and quickly settled into my team and worked on a daily basis with the rest of the team while having my own independent parts of projects.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was more of an opportunity to learn more and have additional training. As well as work on a variety of projects as it pertains to other teams at Fletcher/CSI.

Research Analyst Intern

What I liked

Couldn't say enough about the culture at Fletcher from senior directors to analysts, everyone is always willing to help regardless of how busy they are. One of the aspects I enjoyed about the internship was being able to work on material that clients would see directly instead of doing meaningless work. At Fletcher, even as an intern, you are given a lot of responsibility from day one. Toward the end of my internship, I presented in front of senior members of a Fortune 500 company on a project I had worked on all summer. The work is always changing, which keeps the job interesting and exciting. Great experience!

What I wish was different

There isn't anything I would want different about my internship experience

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is don't be afraid to reach out to team members for clarification on tasks. Everyone at Fletcher is very nice so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Junior Research Analyst

May 2020 • Williston, VT

What I liked

I liked that this role allowed me to apply my biomedical engineering background to various consulting projects for fortune 500 medical and pharmaceutical companies. This was my first experience in the business/consulting world so it was great to dip my toes into something new while continuing to develop some of my technical knowledge. My supervisors provided me with a lot of helpful guidance while also allowing me to be independent with my work. Overall, this was a very valuable learning experience and I ended up being brought back on board for a variety of projects the following year!

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, my internship occurred during the pandemic so I worked remotely. This came with some additional challenges, however, the Life Science team I worked with was really accessible over Teams during work hours.

Advice

One piece of advice would be to ask as many questions as possible! I worked alongside many people who have been in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry for years and have a lot of expertise to offer. Asking clarifying questions helped me work more efficiently and produce deliverables that met my managers' expectations.
