What I liked

Really cool environment and totally different experience. Not many people are familiar with the Division of Emergency Management and it was interesting to see what they do. Everyone I met was very friendly and helpful. My intern supervisor was outstanding.

What I wish was different

I wish we were able to experience a hurricane activation. I would have loved to see all the different agencies in action.

Advice

Go in with an open mind. I learned something new every day and ended up enjoying it much more than I thought I would. Always be ready to learn.

State Watch Office Intern

What I liked

I loved the ability to shadow different department leaders and gain a well-rounded experience at FDEM. The supervisors are very understanding of class conflicts and are willing to work out a schedule to accommodates your needs. The experience and networking is incredibly beneficial for a future career in emergency management.

Come with an open mind and be ready to work wherever you are needed, particularly during activation periods.
