What I liked

Working this job was lots of fun for a variety of reason; the coworkers were great, I formed awesome community, it was more of a relaxed work environment, and I got to see clothing items as soon as they were released.

What I wish was different

Something that I wished would be different is the way that customers treated the workers. Customer service is not an easy job to begin with, and when you add in the disrespect that customers offer you the job becomes more difficult.

Advice

A piece of advice that I could offer a new employee would be to stay positive and look at all situations with the half glass full; remember that the sun will rise again tomorrow and that customers are not angry necessarily at 'you', but at the situation.

In any job experience, if they give you the opportunity to feel out the position or even different areas within the job or company, take it! I ran the register, floor and fitting room, and I found that my strength was working the floor.

I really enjoyed the the aspect of getting to work with a team and getting some valuable work experience in a large corporation.

What I wish was different

I feel that in some ways there was a lack of communication between the managers and the employees, often times the schedule would shift and the managers would fail to let the employees know.

Advice

I would say that you should be proactive in your job search, it is not enough to apply online and expect to get hired, if you do want to get hired you should actually visit the hiring manager in person because it shows your drive and helps you to make personal connections.

What I liked

My coworkers were all really supportive even when the managers weren’t. The location in times square was easily accessible and the store was large so there was always something to do.

What I wish was different

I wish we could have picked which section we worked in, as well as having a better way to access our schedules rather than coming into the store to check.

Advice

A very short term job, most everyone quits and that’s why they hire so many people so quickly, so don’t sweat it. Treat the job and the people working with respect but recognize your place in the company is not permanent by any sense of the word.

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to help customers and maintain everything well organized. I enjoyed my coworkers, they were always there if I needed any help personally or with work.

What I wish was different

I wish the pay and the responsibilities were different for being a team member. There is a lot of things you do that they should raise the pay at least a dollar or 50 cents. It would help a lot of the people who are working in the store, most of them are college students or adults who have a second job. The store I was working in had a broken AC unit and there were times I would arrive and the AC was working or it was still broken. During the hot summer we'd have to work in the store, the managers allowed us to take breaks throughout the shift but it was unacceptable that there was sometimes weeks where we would not have AC. The only thing they had when the AC was broken was big fans but the store is large and the fans would not circulate enough cold air. The managers wanted to close the store but the main manager of the store or of the several stores of F21 in Fairfax did not want to in order to gain more money. This was the worst part of it all. Forever 21 needs to clean up their act and treat their employees with respect.

Advice

One piece of advice I would like to share is that make sure we analyze the place you are applying for. Get all the information needed like, your pay, the environment in the store, responsibilities, and benefits. As a college student I took this job because it was the first summer job that accepted me and I needed money to pay for my summer classes at college. Know your self worth and when it is time to quite or make a stand.
