I enjoyed getting to work at a nonprofit and learn the differences between nonprofits and other businesses. I also enjoyed getting to interact with youth, adults, and families involved with the organization who were getting ready to travel or were hosting international visitors. A majority of work was done in the office, so when you got to see those your work was impacting it was very rewarding.
What I wish was different
I wish I had met with my boss more frequently to discuss ways I could improve, as sometimes I felt I was doing tasks incorrectly or would quickly finish a task and have less to do. I also wish this position had been paid, it was difficult to work a part-time job around business hours.
Advice
Always ask questions when you're not quite sure about why something is done the way it is! I learned a lot about nonprofits by asking questions that the staff just assumed I understood or thought I wouldn't find it interesting or helpful.
