Gateway Studios & Production Services

Audio Technician Intern

January - May 2023 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I liked how organized the audio department seems to be. They are always on top of things. I also like the patience and understanding towards me as I still have a lot to learn.

What I wish was different

I wish there could have been more going on in the first half of my internship. That isn't really their fault, it's more so the touring industry being slow around that time of year.

Advice

My best advice would be to ask as many questions as possible and get involved as much as possible. I realized that much later, unfortunately. Also, take the opportunity to network not just with the audio department, but with video and lighting as well.

Audio Technician Intern

January - May 2023 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

My supervisor and all of my coworkers were very supportive of me and always answered any question I had. I learned so much about the audio industry, specifically large touring events, during my time at Gateway. There was always something to do at the shop even when there wasn't a show going out or coming in! Gateway has so much equipment that is very common in the touring world that is accessible to any curious intern willing to learn.

What I wish was different

I wish I spent a little more time checking out all the gear and it's capabilities during down time. It's not everyday you can see that stuff in person and ask professionals sitting right next to you how to use it.

Advice

I would advise any intern that is interested in Gateway or any other audio production company to do their research and be realistic. No intern will be working huge shows on location during their time–that comes with tenure, experience, and trust. There are plenty of other cool avenues to explore at Gateway rather than on-location work.
