Marketing & Brand Development Intern

June - August 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I loved building connections and learning about the company. I also liked the freedom we had. We were given projects, but we had time to meet with people outside of the department for coffee chats and breakfast. The culture was very welcoming.

What I wish was different

The program was brand new, so there were no scheduled check in points with managers for our ongoing projects.

Advice

Make sure you go in ready to learn. Never be afraid to reach out to people and network with them! They are all super friendly. Ask questions when needed.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

April 2019 • Menomonee Falls, WI

What I liked

The amount of responsibility you can earn at Harley. The opportunity to lead your own project where full time engineers come to ask you questions about your projects and how it ties into the bigger layout/picture at the plant. I have been called into technical meetings and asked to explain my project for upper level plant management and treated as an expert instead of an intern. The office layout is also very nice, large windows make for more enjoyable early morning in my opinion.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a better on boarding or training process for interns. There is a comprehensive training program for full time engineers, but for interns you are expected to pick things up quickly and ask lots of well thought out questions.

Advice

It always seems that you are fighting an uphill battle against design changes, this can be said about any manufacturing position. However, at Harley, it seems that a lot of the burden of figuring out problems falls on the manufacturing engineers.

Engineering Co-op

May - August 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I have worked three terms at Harley-Davidson. The first two terms (May 2018- December 2018) were spent as a Design Engineering Co-op for the lighting systems team. This summer I went back as a Test Engineering Co-op. I loved that Harley gave me the ability to explore two completely different roles within the company. I felt challenged while also having a numerous amount of people that were more than willing to help me if needed. Overall, working for Harley is one of the best decisions I have ever made!
