Tax Intern

January - April 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

Great, small-office culture! I enjoyed being able to work on tax returns from beginning to end. Busy-season activities, snacks, meals, and overtime pay were a huge plus. Even full-time employees get paid overtime. My managers and other co-workers are great people and made work more enjoyable.

What I wish was different

It's a long drive from Gilbert, but 9-6 office hours make the commute a little shorter.

Advice

Be ready to contribute your skills and knowledge as well as learn new things. There is a big learning curve when it comes to tax software and regulations.

Tax Intern

June - August 2018 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I really liked the people at the firm, they were all so nice and helpful. Working at a smaller firm was really fun becuase everyone was so close and I got to know the people really well.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had taken a tax class before doing this internship so I had more knowledge about the field. But now that I am in a tax class I feel like I am understanding the concepts a lot better because of my experience.

Advice

Going into an internship it is okay to not know anything (especially for accounting internships). It is okay to ask questions and take initiative when you don't understand something. My manager even told me that he loved that I wasn't afraid to ask for help and they really like it when they can see us trying to learn.
