Kitchen

July - August 2020 • Three Lakes, WI

What I liked

HoneyRock does a great job of making authentic community a priority. I have had great experiences working with them in the past, I was a counselor there during the 2018 summer and I was part of the Vanguard Gap-Year program. Chef Thomas makes the work environment professional and fun.

What I wish was different

With COVID regulations in place it made it hard to really get to know the other staff working at HoneyRock.

Advice

One big thing about HoneyRock is that they want to be a place apart, so phones are to be used as little as possible. Don’t expect to be able to be on your phone as much as you normally may be.

Canoe instructor

May - August 2019 • Three Lakes, WI

What I liked

I loved the growth I got as a leader as well as spiritually here. I really learned how to think for myself and discover my own leadership style. I love the people there and the peaceful environment. I would recommend this place to anyone! My job also counted as an internship, which was awesome!

What I wish was different

I wish I had looked into being a counselor a few summers ago. I feel like it would have given me valuable experience going into this position.

Advice

Get to know people outside of activity staff, and really use the summer to connect with God. There are so many opportunities to grow that you can miss if you start thinking of it as “just a job”.
